WKA Manufacturers Cup Series returns to action March 25-27 at Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. — The World Karting Association is set to host the third and fourth rounds of their 2022 Vega Tire Manufacturers Cup Series presented by Summit Racing Equipment next week — March 25-27 — at the Charlotte Motor Speedway kart track.

Pre-registration for the A-Maxx Charlotte Karting Challenge is open through Sunday, March 20 at 11:59pm.

Kart Lounge is happy to announce we’ll be at “America’s Home for Racing” for the second time this month, this time to cover all the WKA action at CMS’s 0.65-mile kart track, located inside turns 3 and 4 of the 1.5-mile speedway oval and within a short walk from WKA’s main offices.

After a well-attended series opener in the final days of December at Daytona International Speedway, WKA will look to keep the Man Cup momentum rolling at Charlotte with 15 classes on the weekend schedule.

The Charlotte event serves as rounds three and four of the eight-race series with round three Saturday, March 26 and round four Sunday the 27th. Each day will consist of a five-minute morning practice session for each class, a 10-lap pre-final and a 14- or 16-lap final depending on the division (Kid Karts 8 laps).

Friday is the busiest day of the weekend with three 7-minute rounds of official practice before two afternoon qualifying sessions — the first for Saturday’s program and the second for Sunday’s program.

If you’re looking for plenty of track time, this is the event to attend as the track will also be open Thursday for a full day of practice running from 9:15am to 5:30pm.

On the 2-cycle side, four IAME categories are on the ticket — Micro Swift, Mini Swift and the popular KA Junior and KA Senior.

Three Margay Ignite LO206 spec classes will run on the Hoosier R80s — Junior (age 12-15), Senior (age 15+) and Masters (age 35+). Ignite Junior runs at 320#, Senior 360# and Masters 370#. Each of the four WKA Man Cup events this year is an Ignite Major.

We expect some heavy hitters of LO206 sprint racing will be in attendance. A full slate of CIK 206 divisions is on the card comprising Cadet, Junior, Senior 360#, Senior 375# and Masters.

Also on the docket will be a pair of vintage local options, one for Briggs Stock and one for Yamaha/Stock Appearing. With the Maxxis Sprint Series — the four-year home for Briggs Vintage Stock sprint racing in the South — not returning this year, we’ll be interested to see how many vintage teams support this race.
