CONCORD, N.C. — Now less than a month away from the June 24-26 series opener at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Kart Track, the WKA Gold Cup is set to make its much-anticipated return to the World Karting Association family for the first time since 2016.
Series officials are working to put the finishing touches on what is set to be an outstanding rebirth of the Gold Cup program at one of the fastest and most prestigious kart tracks in the country in CMS. Competitors will now have some extra incentive to go for wins and podiums as every class that has at least 10 entries will award $250 cash and a trophy check to the winner, a $100 Summit Racing gift card to second and $50 Summit Racing gift card to third.
The awards will be based on Saturday and Sunday’s finals. Each day’s feature winner will receive 1 point, P2 receives 2 points, P3 receives 3 points, and so on. The lowest total between the two finals wins.
The prize package will be offered at all three 2022 Gold Cup events: the Charlotte opener, the Sept. 9-11 round at Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Ga., and the season closer Nov. 18-20 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
Overall Finishers
1st – $250.00 Cash and Trophy Check
2nd – $100.00 Summit Gift Card
3rd – $50.00 Summit Gift Card
“We are really looking forward to the Gold Cup coming back to life,” explained WKA Chairman of the Board Mike Tetreault. “So much so that we have added some additional prizes for all classes that have 10 or more entries. Paying back prize money helps people recoup some of the expenses of racing, and it is a great way for WKA to give back to the karting community.”
With online registration continuing to remain open, teams and competitors can take advantage of the full service program. With the portal providing the ability to register for classes, reserve pit spots, RV and camping spots, RV hookups and order Vega Tires, WKA is making it easy for the racer to get everything in one place quickly and easily.
