WKA announces class structure for Gold Cup Series

CONCORD, N.C. — This year will mark the return of WKA’s once prominent Gold Cup Series for 4-cycle sprint karts, and today the organization announced an 11-class structure — nine LO206 and two Vintage — for the three-race Southeast tour.

The Gold Cup class list looks very similar to last year’s Maxxis Sprint Series, which did not return in 2022 after a four-year run.

Cadets for ages 7 to 12 and juniors for ages 12 to 15 will each have a pair of categories, Cadet Green and Cadet Yellow and Junior Yellow and Junior Black. The color denotes the carburetor slide on the LO206 engine.

Senior LO206 for drivers age 15 and up will have two classes with minimum weights of 360# and 380#, respectively. 206 Masters for drivers age 35 and up will run at 390# and WKA will offer a 206 Super Masters, or Legends in CKNA, for drivers age 50 and up. Super Masters will run at 375#.

206 Kid Kart, Vintage Stock Medium and Vintage Stock Heavy complete the 11 divisions.

The series kicks off June 24-26 at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s 0.65-mile kart track before moving to Lamar County Speedway in Barnesville, Ga., Sept. 9-11 and closing at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 18-20.
