Six AKRA Road Race Nationals on tap for 2022

MONROE, N.C. — American Kart Racing Association, in conjunction with the Dart Kart Club, Woodbridge Kart Club and Championship Enduro Series, is proud to announce the schedule of events for the 2022 AKRA National Road Race Series.

Following a record setting 2021 series that totaled just under 3,000 race entries at six national events, next year’s schedule looks very similar this past season’s with six dates at five of the best road courses east of the Mississippi.

“We’re very happy with our 2022 Road Race Series schedule,” AKRA CEO Bill McCutcheon stated. “Many thanks goes out to the great people at Dart Kart, Woodbridge and CES for solidifying these dates with each track’s officials so quickly after the end of this season.

“Once again, next year’s schedule offers teams some of the best road course venues in the East, and the positioning of the dates keeps the series’ momentum strong all season while also providing teams approximately one month in between most events, giving time to regroup, order parts if needed, and keep racing. Thank you to all the racers for continuing to make this the best road race series in the country.”

AKRA racers will kick off the tour with a May 20-22 national at Summit Point Motorsports Park’s 2.0-mile Main Circuit in eastern West Virginia. The 2022 Summit Point opener will include a Friday practice before two big race days, and for the second consecutive year the event will include the Animal Nationals for Briggs Animal-powered sprint-enduro karts. Last year the class attracted over 50 entrants from all over the US. As always, Woodbridge Kart Club will host the Summit Point opener.

Round two will bring AKRA competitors to what’s become the biggest annual road race of the year, the Dart Kart Club-hosted Mid-Ohio Nationals June 17-19 at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Officials will be aiming to top last year’s 942 entry count at the Lexington, Ohio, speed plant, which was the largest turnout for a road race in decades.

AKRA and Dart Kart will remain in Ohio for round three July 22-24 at Nelson Ledges Road Course in the northeast corner of the Buckeye State. This will mark the fourth annual visit to Nelson Ledges’ 2-mile course and the event attracted 323 entries in 2021.

A return visit to Summit Point’s Main Circuit August 20-21 will mark the series’ fourth stop. WKC will again host second Summit Point round of the year and this will be a two-day race without Friday practice.

AKRA will team up with the Championship Enduro Series for round five at Michigan’s Gingerman Raceway on Sept. 10-11. CES hosts the event and it will count toward AKRA Road Race points.

Two weeks after Gingerman the tour will make its final stop of 2022 in western Pennsylvania at the popular Pittsburgh International Race Complex Sept. 23-25. The Dart Kart-hosted Pitt Race national attracted over 250 racers and over 850 entries this past fall and in recent years the event has become one of the marquee road races in the country.
