Road racing is the most versatile form of karting with a number of different forms of karting coming together at a single event, including shifter karts, TaGs, LO206 sprint, laydown enduros, 4-cycle and 2-cycle 100cc sprint-enduros, SuperKarts, cadets and more.

Road race events are held at racecar road courses between 1.5 and 4 miles in length. Over the years, some of the most popular venues have been Daytona, Road America, Charlotte, Mid-Ohio, VIR, Laguna Seca and Summit Point.

Unlike sprint karting, there are no designated “road race” tracks that host weekly or monthly events. Road race clubs and organizations promote their events typically as a part of a touring series that has a year-end points program and awards package. These series range between two and over a half-dozen events each year, depending on the club or organization.

Road race events generally include around a half-dozen “race groups” per day that combine multiple classes into a single race.  Each race is timed and the norm for most series is 30 minutes for sprint-enduro and 45 minutes for laydown enduro divisions.

In recent years many clubs and organizations have come together to promote events that count toward multiple series’ point standings. For example, the annual Mid-Ohio national in June is an event hosted by the Dart Kart Club and also serves as a points race for AKRA, WKA and KART.
