A new tire specifically designed for road racing will soon be on the market. The Cobra Tire made its debut at the AKRA opener in May at Summit Point, where Ben Eberhart ran the rubber on his vintage Elite enduro to four race wins in four starts.
The tires, which produce a nostalgic look with their bright yellow print, will offer road racers a number of benefits. These include ultra-easy mounting and balancing, longevity, even tire wear and an affordable price point at about $10 less for a set than other manufacturers.
“I got a phone call asking me if I wanted to test Cobra tires during the AKRA National at Summit Point. I said ‘sure,’ and that’s how that happened,” Eberhart said.
“The fronts are big,” Eberhart described. “That made them stick which helped fine, especially toward the end of the races. The fronts are getting an adjustment to the height, but other than that these tires will be ready to race at any level of road racing.”

Several more sets of Cobras will be tested at the Mid-Ohio Nationals June 18-20, and AKRA President Bill McCutcheon says the tires will be ready for distribution later this summer.
More information will be announced on the new Cobra Tires, including available sizes and where and how to purchase them, in the near future.
