Owen Lloyd wins 3 races on MGM Chassis at Daytona CKNA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Owen Lloyd led another outstanding CKNA event for MGM Chassis on Memorial Day weekend, this time at the Daytona International Speedway kart track for the final rounds of the 2024 Cup Karts North America South Division.

In his first race ever at the 0.56-mile DIS kart track, Lloyd won three of the six finals he entered between the ultra competitive Senior Light, Medium and Heavy divisions.

The Georgia racer would dominate the Heavy class all weekend and sweep the pair of finals. The wins propelled him to the Heavy championship in the CKNA South series.

He added a Saturday Round 6 Medium feature win to his total to accomplish the hat trick. Lloyd would narrowly miss out on wins in Light and Medium on Sunday, although he did finish on the podium in two of those three finals and top five in every final he started.

“I was excited about racing at Daytona for the first time, but felt like I was at a disadvantage because my competition had been there many times before. We unloaded fast, picked up the track quickly and showed lots of speed during Friday practice. I felt like I had the fastest karts in all 3 classes, I just couldn’t position myself at the right time. Thanks to MGM Chassis for giving me fast karts and Mike Capps Racing Engines for the horsepower,” Lloyd commented.

In addition to Lloyd, 30 other drivers from across the eastern half of the country entered their MGM machines at Daytona, more than any other chassis manufacturer.

Jake Duvall, Reed Hindrey, William Lessig and James Perkins all finished podium on their Espionage chassis.

The event was the first time in years a kart race not included in WKA’s KartWeek was held at the Daytona kart track, giving racers a rare opportunity to run the circuit at a time other than the Christmas holiday season.
