Cup Karts South to run Daytona kart track May 24-26

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The news of the day in 206 sprint racing comes with Cup Karts North America’s announcement that their Cup Karts South division will close its four-event 2024 series at Daytona International Speedway’s 0.56-mile kart track this Memorial Day weekend.

Daytona will replace Bushnell (Fla.) Motorsports Park, where the Cup Karts South season closer was originally scheduled. The May 24-26 date remains in place.

Announced at 11am ET Wednesday, a Cup Karts race at Daytona is something series promoter Bret Spaude says he and CKNA officials have been working on for over two years.

While endurance karting races have been held at DIS’s kart track in the past, the track is traditionally run only once a year during WKA’s annual Daytona KartWeek Dec. 28-30.

Recent sprint winners at Daytona in senior 206 competition include James Overbeck, who won 206 Medium and Featherweight finals this past December, and Colin Warren, who won three of the four 206 Medium and Heavy finals at KartWeek in December 2022.

The move to Daytona continues a series of “firsts” for Cup Karts South in 2024. Before holding their first race at Daytona this May, the series is preparing for their inaugural visit to Atlanta Motorsports Park for rounds 4 and 5 this April 12-14.

The AMP event currently has over 125 pre-entries.
