Five Races Confirmed for 2021 AKRA Road Race Series

posted in: Road Race 2

The 2021 Vega Tire AKRA Road Race Series schedule is nearing completion, and here’s what it shows so far.

Mid-Ohio confirmed for Fathers Day weekend

One of the biggest annual events on any road racer’s calendar is the June national at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. We’re happy to report that the traditional Fathers Day weekend date (June 18-20, 2021) has been confirmed for Dart Kart Club (DKC) and AKRA at Mid-Ohio.

This past season, the Mid-Ohio national was a points race for AKRA, DKC, CES, KART and WKA and we’re hopeful that will be the case again in 2021.

DKC-hosted events at Nelson-Ledges Road Course in Ohio and Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Pa. are confirmed.

The Nelson-Ledges event is set for July 23-25 and Pittsburgh will presumably close the 2021 campaign September 24-26. Both races will include the traditional national-event format of a full day of Friday practice with racing Saturday and Sunday. Pittsburgh has been one of the best attended road races in the country the last couple years.

Nelson-Ledges is AKRA and DKC points while Pittsburgh is a points event for nearly every Road Race series on the eastern half of the country – AKRA, DKC, CES, WKC and likely WKA.

AKRA to rejoin CES at Grattan in July

The Championship Enduro Series (CES) event July 9-11 at Grattan Raceway in Belding, Mich., is once again an AKRA points event for 2021.  This has been the case for the last several years at the 2-mile hilly road course in western Michigan.

AKRA with WKC at Summit Point in August

Confirmed by Woodbridge Kart Club president Bill Kassy, WKC’s event August 21-22 event at Summit Point Motorsports Park (W. Va.) will be an AKRA series points event as it was in 2020. This is a two-day event (no Friday practice) on Summit’s 2.0-mile Main Course with racing Saturday and Sunday, and it’s a shared event with the Formula Race Promotions group. (If you’ve never been to one of these, it’s a cool sight with formula cars and karts sharing the paddock and alternating race groups throughout the weekend.)

More events may be added. Updates will be posted as soon as they become available.

2021 AKRA Schedule (to date as of Nov. 19, 2020):

Event 1:  Mid-Ohio – AKRA, DKC Points and likely more series to be added (Confirmed, June 18-20)
Event 2:  Grattan – CES, AKRA Points (Confirmed, July 9-11)
Event 3:  Nelson-Ledges – DKC, AKRA Points (Confirmed, July 23-25)
Event 4:  Summit Point – WKC, AKRA Points (Confirmed, Aug. 21-22)
Event 5:  Pittsburgh – DKC, AKRA, CES, WKC Points (Confirmed, Sept. 24-26)

I dropped out of karting in 2002 when my son started racing Dirt modifieds. I was a Yamaha can road racing guy. What would be a good laydown class to get back in? Thanks

Yamaha Pipe is the most popular laydown class with AKRA, Dart Kart Club and WKA right now and over the last few years.

      AKRA Class Rules:
      Yamaha Pipe Final 1 & Final 2
      Competition Age: 15 and up
      Engines: Yamaha
